Diana Waha

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist MRCSLT RC0016314 HCPC SL17741

My Story

I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and a member of Royal College of Speech and Language. I am registered with both HCPC and ASLTIP. I have over 20 years of experience in different settings. I am here to help and discuss your concerns about your child’s Speech, Language or Communication. I will happily discuss your child’s needs over the phone. I offer a 15-minute free consultation by telephone. My fees are available upon request, but an indicative price is £90 per hour.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1999 (Graduate Diploma, City University).  I have predominantly worked with children in the preschool years and the foundation stages of education.

I have worked within both the independent and maintained sectors.  I have experience working for the NHS, local authorities and within independent practice.  My clinical approach within these organizations has been one of collaboration and providing functional interventions.

CLINICAL APPROACH

I believe in a functional approach to therapy.  I practice using a strength-based model to meet the child at their current level of functioning and provide therapeutic interventions to help develop new skills.   I collaborate with parents, educators and health professionals to support your child's needs.

To achieve this practice style, I utilize an evidence-based approach to therapy. I practice using an eclectic therapy style developed over the last twenty years. I continue to explore clinical research and update my skills to provide the most effective clinical support for your child.

To support my interventions, I often use video to reflect and reinforce communication styles that support language development.

BEYOND THERAPY

I am a Speech and Language therapist who was initially trained as a biologist. As a scientist-practitioner, I have a strong interest in research and evidence-based practice and contribute to the field of Speech and Language therapy. I have been involved in helping to develop a system-wide approach to supporting communication development in local authority early years services.  I am currently working as a Research Assistant (Early Language Assessor) on the 'Early Years Conversation' project with Durham University.

As well as being a Speech and language therapist, I am a mother of 3 grown-up children.
